180 To Protect and Preserve

Green Hills works in partnership with community, government and business to protect the rural integrity and character of the Maleny District, endeavouring to preserve the town's history as an existing service town to farming community.

 

Who Are Maleny District Green Hills Fund?

Initiated by Dr. Greg Wren of Maleny, with the support of a group of concerned citizens sharing his vision, Green Hills was first registered as a Public Company Limited by Guarantee under Queensland Corporation Law in December 1995. Listed on the Australian Government Register of Environmental Organisations, which entitles contributors to full tax deductability on donations to the Gift Fund, which has its own Trustees.

Green Hills Exists To:

  • To maintain and preserve the rural and visual charm of the Maleny District for Maleny lovers while protecting the interests of Maleny residents & landowners.
  • To protect and preserve the environment.
  • To act as trustees of lands which owners wish to protect for the future.
  • To raise funds from donations, bequests and fund-raising activities to purchase, protect and manage significant private land.
  • To encourage private individuals and other groups in the preservation of Maleny land.
  • To research and disseminate information relevant to land usage in the Maleny district.


A Brief Overview of the past achievement and activities of Green Hills:

2008-Present: In 2008 Obi Obi Parklands became major project of Green Hills. Involvement on Sunshine Coast Regional Council Maleny Precinct Advisory Group. Commenced detailed development of lease proposal for a significant area within the Maleny Community Precinct.

2007 Assisted creation of Obi Obi Parklands public submission for Maleny Community Precinct.

2007 Participated in Iconic Status legislation Discussions.

Sept 2006 Community Planning Workshop arranged by Green Hills & conducted by Paul Summers.

2005 -2006 Participated in discussions on proposed State legislation on land and Environment matters.

2005- 2007 Overviewed FOI process for accessing Caloundra City Council Probity Audit in relation to Maleny Community Precinct.

2003 - 2004 Commissioned and financed QUT students in Landscape Architecture to develop concept plans for the Precinct. Community presentation 2004. Some of these ideas are similar to the current Master Plan.

2003 - 2004 Member Community Task Force for Maleny Community Precinct.

2003 Community Meeting to present SEQ Regional Plan and City Plan inputs - 150 people in attendance.

2003 Prepared submission for City Plan.

2003 Prepared submission for South East Queensland Regional Plan.

2001 - 2007 Formed Maleny Water Group. Prepared and completed Water Study -- presented to Caloundra City Council. Organised Pipe Line Petition calling for a proper study -- c. 2000 signatures. Member of Maleny Integrated Sustainable Water Management Plan Study under auspices of Caloundra City Council.

2001 - 2002 Member of Community Forum -- co-ordinated three community workshops.

1997 - 2000 Involvement with State Government on Covenant legislation -- co-ordinated community presentation.

1997 - 2000 Joint meetings with the CAG to develop the Maleny Development Control Plan -- coordinated several community joint presentations with Caloundra Council.

1996 Representative selected for Maleny Community Advisory Group (CAG).

1995: Green Hills was formed and Registered as Company limited by guarantee.
